Missing SC Woman Jessica Ashmore Found Dead in Woods
Jessica Ashmore, 34, had been reported missing by her family on May 19, 2019. The mother of two and a resident of Jonesville, South Carolina, had been walking along a rural road and vanished after having an argument at her family’s Jonesville property. Her cell phone and inhaler she used for chronic asthma had been left behind. According to deputies with the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Jessica’s remains were discovered by a tree planting crew, deep in the woods on Jeffries Farm Road on December 16, 2019. Union County deputies said South Carolina Law Enforcement Department (SLED), the state lab, used DNA testing to confirm a 99.7 percent match. Sheriff David Taylor said crews from American Forest Management were planting pine trees about 2.5 miles away from Jeffries Farm Road. Described as in the “middle of nowhere” deputies had to bring in equipment to cut their way into the deeply forested location. “We had to cut a road for part of it to get our vehicles down there,” Taylor said. The skeletal remains did not look like they were buried. However, local law enforcement working with SLED and the FBI have referred to Jessica’s death as “criminally suspicious” according to Fits News. “It’s nothing but a skeleton,” Taylor said.
